Lung Health and Long Suffering are Related - Respiratory System/Attributes of Christ Continued...

We had such a great time covering our respiratory system we continued to study more. The way's we use our lungs are amazing! I am going to cover Lung Health in this brief bullet type list article, but first I want to remind you that voices and lungs are related and have everything to do with our lungs. From our last lesson we discovered that the word lungs do not appear in the Bible or Book of Mormon, however the word "breath' does. There are other words that correlate with the lungs in scripture and it is "voice" and "long suffering." First we will explore Vocie, lung health and then "long-suffering."

Our Heavenly Father has a voice and we were made after His image. He often spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden:

Moses 4:14 14 And they heard the voice of the Lord God, as they were walking in the garden, in the cool of the day; and Adam and his wife went to hide themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

Remember our voices with our words and songs would not be possible without our lungs. Heavenly Father needs our voices to promote His program the Plan of Happiness!

Doctrine Covenants 1:38 38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.
Father in Heaven has given us guidelines to take care of our bodies which include protecting and caring for our lungs! The Word of Wisdom protects both our bodies and our spirits! This article explains the wonderful benefits of the benefits of living the Word of Wisdom:
"In the last 50 years, a wide range of studies by esteemed scientific and medical institutions and schools unaffiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have tracked the positive health effects of following Word of Wisdom practices; the numbers are noteworthy. Fasting, moreover, reduces the risk of coronary artery disease by 40 percent. The number of cases of diabetes, leukemia, lymphoma, and cancer of the kidney, stomach, and bladder among Mormons are half that of the national average; the number of cases of lung cancer was 80 percent lower among Mormons. As early as the mid-1970s, newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the Washington Post ran front-page headlines trumpeting the studies and the corresponding numbers that initially seemed hard to believe."
"As one author noted, cigarette smoking was widespread by World War I, but it wasn’t until the mid-1950s that medical warnings connecting the habit to lung cancer became public. The adverse effects of smoking also include cancer of the larynx, oral cavity, and esophagus."
"Our physical bodies were created in God’s image and were intended to help us further our eternal progression while we live on this earth. We are commanded to care for our bodies because they are a gift from God. Understanding this divine stewardship influences the way we take care of ourselves, and Word of Wisdom guidelines are useful tools to help us do that. When we treat our bodies as temples (see 1 Corinthians 6:19) and as God-given gifts, we gain emotional and spiritual blessings that outweigh even the physical benefits of obeying the Word of Wisdom—we gain a closer relationship to God and a greater sense of our divine identity."
Other ways to care for our lungs are the use of the amazing herbs the Lord has given us! Like herbs such as eucalyptus fennel and licorice. Other ways of lung health would be the use of essential oils such as meleluca, peppermint, lemon and cardamom and laurel leaf.  Alma 46:40 40 And there were some who died with fevers, which at some seasons of the year were very frequent in the land—but not so much so with fevers, because of the excellent qualities of the many plants and roots which God had prepared to remove the cause of diseases, to which men were subject by the nature of the climate—
In fact everything you drink and eat will effect the amount of oxygen in our bodies. "Proper hydration and nutrition can help improve oxygen levels. For example, eating antioxidants helps the body maintain the proper amount of blood oxygen. Try eating blueberries, cranberries, artichoke hearts, blackberries and strawberries." https://lunginstitute.com/blog/oxygen-levels-brain-function/
We spoke about the importance of clean air. Cultures like those in Itally have the practice of opening their windows and airing out their homes once a week. We spoke about having air purifiers in our homes where they clean the list and microbes out of the air and often help those who suffer from asthma.
Breathing is so important the lack of oxygen will cause confusion and even death! Have you ever been on an airplane when a stewardess stands and instructs you on the importance of putting on the oxygen masks for yourself FIRST gif they drop in front of you? Yes! This is so important it is a matter of life and death! You can go from a rational thinking person to someone totally incapable of reasoning or even moving in 30 seconds if the air pressure drops. This is an effect called Hypoxia. Watch this amazing video how one scientist wanted to understand hypoxia and had the help from NASA scientists to study the effects and record them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUfF2MTnqAw
We covered the voice box and the vocal cords last lesson. We also use our noses to breath and talk! Breathing through the nose has so many wonderful healthy attributes and is even an attribute of the SAVIOR!
Watch this video on the importance of our noses! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8Kwt_bwFHM
Have you ever heard the word "Long Suffering" in the scriptures? They are everywhere! Go through each scripture and see that this is not only a gift of the Spirit but also an attribute of the Savior. Long Suffering in Greek means "LONG OF NOSE."  We are asked to be patient...or long suffering. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/long-suffering?lang=eng
See 2nd Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Be long suffering or long of nose! Take a deep breath through your nose when you are feeling stressed or frustrated. Often when we are overwhelmed of stressed we are not breathing as we should and often have a lack of oxygen. This lack of oxygen prevents us from using our thinking/reasoning part of the brain the frontal lobe. https://lunginstitute.com/blog/oxygen-levels-brain-function/?location=Body
Long Suffering is an attribute of Christ and also part of our Spiritual and Physical LUNGS!
Increase your oxygen and increase your ability to be "long suffering, to be patient and endure to the end joyfully." https://lunginstitute.com/blog/low-blood-oxygen-affects-body/
I was teaching this lesson to my children the other day and my son recognized that his power to be patient waiting for three days to make play dough. He said, "Mom, I could wait to make play dough because I love you." I was so amazing at his understanding!
Think of it. As we work through our ability to love one another (which is a lesson within itself...in-fact start here) and work through each others imperfections, instead of abandoning the relationship we take long deep breaths, we increase our oxygen blood levels and improve our health, longevity and ability to withstand our burdens with ease.  Of course it is not always that easy. But perhaps, just perhaps as we move through this life...imporving our spirituality and our bodies together...our WHOLE SOULS, we will improve ourselves, like the scientist test hypoxia, we put our oxygen masks on fist and then we are able to effectively help those around us. Rescuing souls.
